Routes into ICAN
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) offers several entry routes:
ATS (Accounting Technician Scheme)
Ideal for O-Level holders and early-career candidates. Completing ATS provides a foundation before progressing to the professional examinations.
Direct entry (ACA)
University graduates in accounting or related fields may enter the ACA professional programme directly, subject to ICAN's entry requirements.
ACCA / other body conversions
Holders of other professional qualifications may apply for exemptions or conversion routes — check ICAN's current exemption matrix.
Examination structure
The ACA programme covers audit, taxation, financial reporting, and ethics. Students should plan study time around the bi-annual diet schedule.
